About Kahlil Gibran (aka Khalil Jibran)
Kahlil Gibran (sometimes spelled Khalil) was a Lebanese-American writer, poet and artist.
Gibran was born in the town of Bsharri in the Mount Lebanon Mutasarrifate (Ottoman Empire). This is north of modern-day Lebanon.
Gibran immigrated with his family to the United States as a young man. Here he studied art and began his literary career. His writings were in both English and Arabic.
Breaking away from the classical school, his romantic style was at the heart of a renaissance in modern Arabic literature, especially prose poetry. In the Arab world, Gibran is regarded as a literary rebel.
He is still celebrated as a literary hero In Lebanon today.
Kahlil is most known in the English-speaking world for his book The Prophet, a series of philosophical essays written in poetic English prose.
Kahlil Gibran is the third best-selling poet of all time, behind Shakespeare and Laozi
